The Caravan 041: The Impossible Girl

It was 1976, neither Kim Boekbinder nor Katelan V. Foisy were born yet.  Jim Henson sat in his studio drawing away, when suddenly he was hit by the biggest, meanest, fugliest characters he had ever met.  They were monsters, and they poked at his ears and pulled his hair until he trapped them in a single sheet of paper.  He named them Kim and Katelan. A few years later those terrible creatures were released from the paper and into human form.  Their names, by no coincidence were Kim Boekbinder and Katelan V. Foisy.  The V standing for Vicious of course.  Kim and Katelan were separated by many states for many years until one night unbeknownst to them, they would meet in a fancy hotel bar in the winter.  From that night, they knew they would come together in a fearsome friendship resulting with many a sequin being thrown and pink tubs with red lipstick smears.  It was truly truly a sight to behold.

Actually I lied.  It was the beginning of an amazing friendship full of inspiration, art, music, and sequins.  (I did not lie about the sequins.) Now Kim recently did something uber brilliant.  She started funding her tours through kickstarter, selling each show as she goes.  This ensures that the audience be plentiful, the travel expenses be taken care of, and the venue and sound system be wonderful.  Here is a tidbit from the press release:

Ms. Boekbinder’s “Impossible Tour” idea has been featured on CCN Money, BBC Radio’s World Service, and BoingBoing. http://www.boingboing.net/2011/06/14/crowdfunding-the-tou.html#comments.  The attention generated from the story has her email inbox flooded with thank you messages from fans, musicians, and venues; as well as offers from internet startups trying to address the very issues that she is dealing with.

Kim is currently in the process of getting funding for a 10 date US Tour.  So if you are in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Boston, Hartford, or NY now is your chance to not only see her live but help in the process.  You are helping to redefine touring. Kim is one hundred and fifty percent boooonnnaaa fiiiidde.  She wouldn't have sent me this if she wasn't.

And I wouldn't have painted this painting for her "Gypsy" song if I didn't believe in her one hundred percent.  After all she believes in me, she believe in you too.  So snatch up those super cheap tickets and enjoy a night of music that you helped put on.  You won't regret it.  She'll have your heart in no time.  I know she grabbed mine.

And here is a link to her music.  I can guarantee you will fall in love on first listen.  Kim's one of those performers that transport you right into a different time.  A magical world where anything is possible and every day is filled with glitter and sequins.  Occasionally there's pie and a unicorn as well, but mostly glitter and sequins and muppets, shhhh.....

Paramicha 04: Kim Vermillion Boekbinder's The Impossible Girl Album Preview

I met Kim Boekbinder once at a chic little bar on the L.E.S.  She had just live streamed with Molly Crabapple and we were meeting up with Gala Darling.  Oh was it a glorious evening, but I digress.  I met Kim once and knew we'd be friends.  She went on tour shortly after that and then news that she'd be moving to NYC for a short period of time.  This made me very happy because I would not only get to hang out with her again, but I would also get to see her play in person.  You see, Kim's music is special.  It's the kind of music that transports you to a different time and place, a place that's a little more magical than the mundane life we sometimes lead.  So take a listen to her preview of The Impossible Girl and donate to the cause. Preorders start at a mere $5 and $20 will get you an advanced, limited edition, signed copy.  My Gypsy heart is twenty times bigger after hearing this song. I'm sure yours will too.
