The Caravan 029: Carnival Of Delights

There are some moments that are so beautiful that every time you close your eyes, a memory snapshot is taken.  Saturday I was honored to take part in the celebration of Cynthia von Buhler's birthday.  The event took place in a gorgeous midtown penthouse, creating a gorgeously surreal "Freaks" themed birthday party.

Cynthia has long been one of my favorite artists.  Her mixed media and sculptural pieces were some of the first works I saw upon moving to NYC.  I fell in love instantly.  One of my favorite pieces sat right by me as I read tarot for the other guests.

How can you not love a painting with that sings to you with so many secrets?

I read from Cynthia's Shakespearean deck which she had so graciously given to me so many months ago.  A few pieces from my own tarot deck graced the walls as well.

Molly Crabapple and Cynthia collaborated on an installation of dead mermaids from the BP oil spill, Sxip Shirey, Jason Webely, Amanda Palmer, and Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys, rocked the evening.  Later we raised our glasses in a toast to Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer's engagement.  There was love all around.

I think Molly said it best: "The night faded out as me and Katelan whirled on a rooftop carosel, the lights of the Empire State Building shining through a haze of bubbles."

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Cynthia von Buhler is not merely a woman, she is a living Goddess.

A special thank you to my awesome designer Julie Schworm for creating this magical corset and skirt for me.  The hat is by milliner extraordinaire Christine A. Moore.
